I am having a filling for my tooth at the dentist and would like to have a gold filling or maybe a gold filling with a diamond put in instead of a normal one. Does anyone know how much this would cost at all?? It sounds stupid hehe but I don't know where else to find out because i am not at the dentist until the date and my mum doesn't want me to get involved with spending my money on something that might waste my money hehe xx
How much is it to buy a gold filling?
If you are just having a filling done, I am not aware of any dentists that still do gold fillings (also known as "gold foil"). They are very technique sensitive and can cause additional trauma to an otherwise healthy tooth. Dentists today either place silver (or amalgam) fillings or white (or composite) fillings. If you are talking about a crown, however, that's a different story. We make gold crowns (or "caps") all the time for people. A crown is only necessary when a large portion of the natural tooth is decayed or fractured, and a filling will no longer suffice. Jewels such as diamonds CAN be placed into gold crowns, but add significant cost to an already expensive restoration. Depending on where you live, crowns can cost between $600 in Hicktown, Ohio and $1200 in the heart of NYC. Most likely you will have to find the jewel that you want placed in the crown on your own, though. I don't know of any dentists that have a selection of them to choose from. Although I guess some dentists are more bling-conscious than others. I hope this helps.
P.S.: And to the guy from India down below who doesn't think that I'm a dentist: Don't answer dental questions that correlate directly to American culture. Your countrymen may dig up lots of diamonds, but Americans DO actually put them on their teeth...not on their foreheads.
Reply:I would go to Knott's Berry Farm, pan for some gold, then have your dentist melt it down for your filling.
Reply:i would ask 50'cent hehe. GG gerrr G-Unit!
Reply:The kind of answer given above, I doubt slapshot is a dentist. You probably meant inlay/onlay gold material, but diamond is hardly used for the actual purpose, unless you meant diamond tooth jewelry.
