Is this racism?

i have some black freinds they are usually middle and upper class people, they talk very formal,dress preppy and are very nice. like my freinds dad is a surgeon and i get along well with my black freinds , but i hate the type of people that use "ghetto" language , have gold teeth ,wear really baggy clothes , and have weird ghetto hair, and have names like shwandika and it just happens that most of them are black ,for example i hate this girl ,Jaahmekalika , she is all i decribed, when i see her i think that she looks like a monkey or somthing, is this i am describing racism?

In a way you kind of are but I understand how you feel. I am the kind of black person you described first. I speak properly and am not ghetto. I know a girl who is also black but she is definitely ghetto and sometimes I am so ashamed of her. She makes me want to blend in with the scenery. As for the hairstyles, that's just culture. I'll admit some are crazy but some are just an expression of our African roots and a symbol of pride in who we are. As for the gold teeth I completly agree, they make people look gross.

Reply:Answering why do you hate them will help you answer your question. I think you have a strong prejudice towards a specific culture. Maybe more time around them and less around the others will broaden your perspective.
Reply:Well, as long as you don't hate them just because they're black. If you hate them because of the way they dress and act that's fine. But you shouldn't hate people because of their name, you don't pick your name.

Reply:I don't care if people think you are racist or not. I don't think you are. I'm black and I cant stand ghetto people. when did being ghetto start being cool. young black kids need to learn responsibility and family values.
Reply:Well of course she would look like a monkey. I mean aren't all humans related to apes? All people look like monkeys. Black people always talk about how everyone is out to get them or how they are underprivileged, but then I see people who don't even live anywhere near a ghetto acting like this. There are ghetto people from every race and the way you describe it, you seem to just hate ignorant people. Hating someone because they're ignorant isn't racist at all, but hating someone because they're black is.
Reply:The monkey comment has overtones of racism. But you're not an overtly racist person. Continue to befriend the kind of Black people you like and ignore the ones you don't.





P.S. Please never say any Black person looks like a monkey. Especially to your Black friends, you will hurt their feelings no matter how much you like them or they like you. Which they obviously do =)
