ive noticed a lot that a lot of people have a silver or gold tooth. just one though, the rest of their teeth are normal just one usually somewhere in the back is silver or gold. (mostly silver). ive even noticed this with my cousin and she is like 6 years old.
Why do Some people have silver/gol teeth?
It%26#039;s a %26quot;crown%26quot; that%26#039;s put on after you get a root canal. Stern, I never mentioned colors I just thought he asked what the %26quot;silver or gold tooth%26quot; was.

Reply:John C, Crowns come in white too.
I think the question was referring to why someone would want a gold or silver cap if they could have one that looked like a normal tooth.
Some people choose it because they think it looks good, fashion reasons.
I think stick with white.
Everything else is just trying too hard.
Reply:A gold or silver tooth is a crown. It does not need to necessarily follow a root canal, but usually does. The silver are made of stainless silver and don%26#039;t last as long as the gold. That is why your cousin would have a silver crown. She likely had it on one of her baby teeth, right?
It can also be done for cosmetic reasons.
There is a third kind of crown called porcelain fused to metal. Those crowns are usually done for the anterior (front) teeth that are visible when a person smiles.
Hope that helps!
Reply:It%26#039;s because they%26#039;ve had a cavity in their tooth that has been very bad and when the dentist has drilled all the decay away there%26#039;s not enough tooth structure left to hold a filling, so they put a kind of %26quot;jacket%26quot; over the tooth which can be gold or silver coloured (or tooth coloured) so that it is strong enough to be used for biting and chewing.
Reply:They are crowns. Some kids have them to help keep there baby teeth longer because it is not time for them to lose the tooth yet. If you have had large fillings in your tooth and there is not that much real tooth structure left then you would have a crown done to protect the tooth from breaking any of the natural tooth.
