The legend of the gold tooth thief, did it ever really happen?

I asked this question in Mythology and Folklore, I%26#039;d like to get more info.

I have heard the legend of the gold tooth thief at least a dozen times.

In one version, in the late 1800s there was a mountain man who would kill pioneers to steal their gold fillings.

Three versions of the legend from World War 2: the Nazis forcible removed gold fillings from Jewish and military prisoners, Japanese soldiers ripped the gold fillings from prisoners, American soldiers removed the gold fillings from Japanese prisoners.

More recently that gangbangers hunt down rival gang members and steal their gold fillings and/or gold teeth.

Does anyone know if any of this ever really happened or is it just an urban myth?

The legend of the gold tooth thief, did it ever really happen?
The war stories YES, The others why not. But I have seen pictures of piles of gold fillings %26amp; teeth from Jews that the Nazis took. Fact is Gold is gold and gold is where you find it, be that the botom of a gold pan sluece or someone%26#039;s mouth it is still gold
Reply:just a note; you make it sound like it was more acceptable for americans to steal gold teeth than japanese or nazis.

I%26#039;m sure people have stolen gold teeth before, it seems logical that people would take the gold from captured/ war prisoner/dead people.
Reply:yep - now the gangbangers snatch the gold and diamond %26quot;grill%26quot; off the gangbangers that they kill.
