GOLD TOOTH or YELLOW METAL?

I HAVE A FILLING IN ONE OF MY SIDE TEETH AND WHEN I SMILE I HATE THE WAY IT LOOKS, SO I WANT TO GET A GOLD TOOTH BUT MY DENTIST TOLD ME THAT YELLOW METAL IS CHEAPER.





I DONT KNOW THE DIFFERENCE, IS THE A DIFFERENT COLOUR WOULD A STRANGER KNOW THATS IT YELLOW METAL.

That nurse doesn%26#039;t know what she is talking about. Real dental gold will not tarnish over time. I have seen gold crowns, onlays, and inlays that are 50 years old, and they look like they were put in yesterday.

Reply:I%26#039;m an RN and I can%26#039;t imagine anyone wanting to draw attention to a particular tooth in their mouth. First of all forget about the fake gold and secondly forget about real gold which also tarnishes over time. There are new types of fillings that can be chosen to match the color of the rest of your teeth. If it is the shape of the filled tooth that you are unhappy with a composite filling can be fused to the problem tooth so that it looks perfect. I had this done to one of my front teeth rather than get a crown and it was much cheaper. Have an evaluation done by another dentist so that you have more professional information which you can use to arrive at a decision. Gold teeth are not cool these days unless you are a senior citizen; my dentist told me so. Good luck to you.

Reply:The only thing I can think of is a crown. I work for a dentist who tells me that no one likes to place gold fillings anymore, because the process of pounding the gold into your tooth can be traumatic on the nerve of the teeth. Maybe your dentist is talking about a crown, or inlay/onlay which is made outside of the office in a dental labratory and then cemented on your tooth. A yellow metal may be a mixture of metals with a smaller percentage of gold, and more silver? Here is a link that may be of some help. It describes the different metals in crowns.
